Oltremani is a network of associations and people. You can become an activist by contacting the local Oltremani association in your city, or you can propose volunteer activities or the creation of a new local group within the national network by writing to info@oltremani.it
Oltremani is already present in Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche, Tuscany, Puglia, Campania and Sicily.
Oltremani creates authentic relationships between people who already live in the area and people who have arrived from other countries and are going through situations of vulnerability. We build these connections through family-based hospitality, shared everyday life, awareness-raising activities and pathways that support people towards full autonomy in society and in work.
Oltremani is a free, autonomous and independent network. We are entirely supported through voluntary donations from private individuals and small-scale projects. We do not seek or accept funding or financial resources from donors whose priorities and practices we do not consider aligned with our ethical code.
No! Oltremani is a community of people who believe in active citizenship. You don’t need to be a professional in the field of reception to be part of Oltremani. The only “requirement” is curiosity about new cultures and the desire to turn your hobbies and passions into opportunities to build new relationships.
Yes, we will, but we want to be clear: we do not have housing to offer or large financial resources. Our support is our community, the network of people and the local area. Together, we will get to know the services available where you live, overcome the barriers you have faced so far, and stop facing this complex system on your own.
Yes, we’re waiting for you. We are a community of people rooted in the places where we live, and we know how hard it is to find housing and work, and how much harder it is when you are on your own. We can’t promise we will always find a solution, but we can commit to facing this need together with you.
Yes. But we don’t like using these “categories” to talk about the people in our community. For us, what matters is building relationships, not labels. Are you ready for this kind of experience – and maybe also to be “helped” yourself?
For Oltremani, family-based hospitality is a free act of welcome: it does not involve financial compensation. Each experience is shaped around your possibilities and those of the person you will meet. If specific needs arise, we can organise a small fundraiser or the association can help cover unexpected costs (for example medical or bureaucratic emergencies). We don’t deny there may be some difficult moments, but they are often balanced by many smiles and a lot of human warmth.
There is no fixed time between your first contact with the nearest Oltremani association and the moment you meet the activists. We need time to reach out to you, meet, get to know each other and understand if and how we can support you or involve you. Please be patient. In cities where we are not yet present, it may be even more complicated to meet in person, but we will do our best to stay in touch and stand by your side.
